Ray Wood Reservoir

MSA is delighted to be working with Castle Howard again, with the restoration of the Ray Wood Reservoir. Located immediately east of the main house the ancient Ray Woods holds an impressive collection of plants from around the globe, including nearly 800 species of Rhododendron as well as this the Ray Wood Reservoir is situated in an amongst the stunning maze of colourful displays. Installed in the 1850's by the 5th Earl and powered by the the Ray Wood Reservoir, the Prince of Wales Fountain main jet reaches a height of 40 feet.

The reservoir was recently drained of approximately 2.4 million litres of water to allow restoration work on the Grade II* listed basin and pedestal which stands approximately 6.4m above the floor of the basin. Using this opportunity MSA was commissioned to obtain detailed 3D models, drawings and photographic information on the stone pedestal engravings which are normally covered by water. The survey also included details on the basin and surrounding area.
