Berkshire College of Agriculture

Tue 8th Jan 2019

MSA is proud to have been appointed by Berkshire College of Agriculture to undertake an extensive measured survey of the estate, underground services and key historic buildings in 2018. The survey, which covers and impressive area of 36 hectares, will provide the college with an integrated digital record that will inform current estate management operations and facilitate their future development needs.

In addition to our commission and working in collaboration with the College, MSA was delighted to provide a morning of lectures on measured surveying to key students on 11th December 2018. The lecture, attended by approximately 30 students, was aimed at providing an overview of measured survey techniques as well as cutting edge trends that would play a role in their chosen career paths in the future. This included hands-on demonstrations of total station and GPS measuring devises as well as a demonstration of a UAV drone survey mission. Students were encouraged to take measurements and familiarise themselves with MSA’s own measurement equipment and techniques.

This was followed by a lecture showing the practical applications of data on projects and discussions on how measured data could be applied to their courses. This also included illustrations of the application of measurement and scan data on projects and the benefit offered by this approach. The lecture provided a platform to inspire the next generation of graduates to reach out beyond their professional constraints and to fully embrace the technical revolution towards a fully integrated virtual spatial environment that enhances productivity and informs future decisions.

Berkshire College of Agriculture (BCA) offer a wide range of full and part time land based courses from their campus outside Maidenhead. The college is focused on providing a strong culture of continuous improvement, where students thrive and are challenged to achieve their full potential. BCA has specialisms in the following areas: Agriculture Crops & Livestock, Animal Care & Management, Countryside Management & Gamekeeping, Equine Care & Management, Floristry, Forestry & Arboriculture, Horticulture, Landscaping & Sports Turf.

Although this was a once-off lecture, MSA has indicated its willingness to collaborate in future endeavours at the College if requested.
