MSA is delighted to be a key contributor to VUCITY, the first interactive 3D digital model of London. VUCITY is a joint development between Wagstaffs, Vertex Modelling and GIA, with additional geodetic support from MSA and Find Maps.
Launched in 2015, it covers more than 200 square kilometres of Central London, currently including the boroughs of Hammersmith and Fulham, Kensington and Chelsea, Camden, Westminster, City of London, Southwark and Tower Hamlets. The model is already being used by the London boroughs of Southwark, Barking and Dagenham and Kingston, with developers including CapCo and Sellar also using the tool for schemes across London.
VUCITY provides an accurate macro overview of the city, right down to the micro view of one building. MSA has and continues to use its extensive 3D laser scan database of the greater London area to provide Level of Detail (LOD3) and LOD4 3D models for buildings within the wider VUCITY model. Our London wide control network together with our terrestrial scan data compliments and enhances the models being produced, using aerial photogrammetry, by Vertex Modelling to deliver the most accurate and detailed model of London yet.
VUCITY brings raw data to life, embedding real time TfL camera feeds, overlay sightlines and provide accurate eye-level views, showing transport links and sunlight paths, all of which help stakeholders understand proposals in context. Visualising London in 3D and the ability to integrate data digitally is the key to unlocking how we tackle development and infrastructure planning.
