London City Airport has produced a masterplan which sets out its plans to increase capacity up to 2030 in response to the Government's Aviation White Paper, 'The Future of Air Transport'. With an increasing focus on East London and the Thames Gateway, the role of London City Airport as a key regenerator and major employer has strengthened further.
We have worked with London City Airport for a number of years and are often asked to return to provide strategic advice on particularly challenging projects that need innovative solutions.
On this particular project, we worked on the Terminal Buildings, taxiways and apron areas - compiling detailed survey plans, façade elevations and sections of the Terminal to be used as a base for further development. Enhanced site surveys show area usage, access restrictions and emergency evacuation routes while extensive topographic surveys of approach roads and car parks provide a full overview of the site. This information provides the design team with the site information they need, allowing them to immediately visualise it.
Special features
- Worked through the night due to the Airport's operating hours to survey above ceiling tiles and trace hidden services
- Minimised site presence, disruption and expense by scanning the operating Terminal instead of using traditional methods
- Truview visuals made available by us over the web allowed the design team to explore the surveyed data and investigate more possibilities
- Information and detail added to site measurements allowed the plans to be used by the development team as well as those in general operations.
"On-going support to a key regenerator and major employer. "
