Glentruim Castle, set in the Cairngorm Mountains of Scotland, is to undergo a major refurbishment and extension to become a prestigious private residence and country sports destination.

At short notice a team travelled to Scotland with the 3D laser scanner to carry out internal and external surveys of the property to create a full set of measured plans to define the full development potential. This included Quicktime movies and 3D models which helped the architects to visualise the building layouts without having to visit the site which is somewhat isolated.

Special features

  • Complete internal and external survey of this large property within two days, using GPS, laser scanning and conventional measurement
  • Laser scanning allowed direct drawing of complex building in 3D, reducing overall project time and creating a more versatile end product
  • Surveying outside traditional remit provided intricately detailed visualisations for the design team to examine the building without travelling to site saving time and expense
